What is the Free Tax Program?

United Way of Madison County partners with AARP and Impact Alabama to offer a Free Tax Program. This service was created to assist families in several ways:

  • Free tax preparation saves each family an average of $300 in fees.
  • Many families do not know they are eligible for tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.
  • Families receive their funds fast so that refund anticipation loans with high interest rates can be avoided.

Our tax program is a high quality, free tax preparation and information service provided by trained, IRS-certified community volunteers.

Who Qualifies?

You may qualify if you fit in one of the 3 categories below. You do not need to fit in all 3 categories to be eligible (just one of these must apply).

Individual incomes less than $25,000

Anyone 60 years of age or older
